Price of maize was up across the key spot markets due to rise in demand from bulk buyers and feed manufacturers. However, a marginal rise in arrivals checked a sharp rise.
Demand is likely to firm up in the coming days as bulk buyers are buying the commodity aggressively anticipating a tight supply due to a decline in production this year.
In Nizamabad, maize arrivals were pegged at 1,900-2,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), compared with 2,100-2,200 bags. In Davangere, arrivals were about 200 bags lower at 1,800 bags.
Taking a cue from the spot markets, futures contracts of maize were also up on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange. The most-active June contract ended 38 rupees higher at 1,770 rupees per 100 kg.
