Acreage has been lower in Madhya Pradesh due to slow progress of the southwest monsoon. In Madhya Pradesh, the acreage under the crop was at 569,000 ha, down from 1.04 mln ha in the previous year. A further fall in overall sowing was restricted due to a 112.2% rise in the area under the crop in Maharashtra at 628,900 ha. Farmers shifting to more profitable cotton crop this season also weighed on the overall acreage under soybean.
