Prices of sugar fell in the key wholesale markets of the country as demand remained weak and supplies firm. The demand for sugar weakens with the arrival of winters due to lower consumption of ice cream and soft drinks. The Centre has pegged the country’s sugar output for 2017-18 (Oct-Sep) at 24.85 mln tn, up 4.65 mln tn from the previous year. India Sugar Mills Association has estimated sugar output for 2017-18 at 25.1 mln tn.
