India Sugar: Rises as govt mulls subsidy for export in 2018-19. sugar continued to rise in key wholesale markets of the country, the food ministry is likely to soon seek the Cabinet’s approval for subsidies on export of up to 5 mln tn of sugar in 2018-19 (Oct-Sep) to help push out the surplus and support domestic prices. The medium-grade variety of the sweetener was sold at 3,370 rupees per 100 kg in Mumbai and at 3,260 rupees in Kolhapur, both up by 40 rupees. In Delhi and Muzaffarnagar, prices were up by 100 rupees per 100 kg each. The food ministry is likely to propose subsidy of 140 rupees per tn of cane crushed to mills that export sugar, as well as transport subsidy of 2,500-3,000 rupees a tn for sugar sold for export.
