India urges Germany to help resolve fungicide row on basmati with EU.

Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh urged Germany’s Parliamentary State Secretary for Food and Agriculture Peter Bleser to make efforts for an early resolution to the issue of capping the level of fungicide tricyclazole allowed in basmati imports to the European Union. Earlier this year, the European Union had reduced the permissible limit of tricyclazole residue in imported rice to 0.01 part per mln from 1 part allowed now. The norm is slated to come into effect Jan 1. Despite efforts by the government, the European Union has not budged on its decision so far. India exports about 350,000 tn of basmati to the bloc every year.
