IMD’s Agrimet division has advised farmers in Karnataka to drain excess water from paddy fields to maintain an optimum level and avoid damage. Though rice is a water-intensive crop, waterlogging may cause decay and hit yield. Karnataka is among the leading growers of paddy. Southwest monsoon covered entire Karnataka last week.
