Area under the urad crop across the country for the 2017-18 kharif season is over 36,500 ha till now, up 13.4% on year. Sowing is higher on year aided by a 58.3% year-on-year rise in acreage in Karnataka at 19,000 ha. Tamil Nadu is the only other state where cultivation of the grain has begun and acreage of urad stood at 17,500 ha, down from 20,200 ha during the same period LY.
