According to Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the area under kharif rice is increased by 2.7 percent to 40,341 thousand hectares as against 39,281 thousand hectares sowed during the same period last year.
Uttar Pradesh stands out among the Indian states as the one that contributes the most to the sowing of rice, with 5,901 thousand hectares. Comparing this to the 5,778 thousand hectares of sowing over the same period last year, there has been an impressive gain of 2.1%.
West Bengal, with its 4,010 thousand hectares of sown land, comes in second among the states. However, when compared to the 3,828 thousand hectares over the same period last year, this statistic shows a rise of 4.8%.
