According to Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the area under kharif rice is increased by 4.3 percent to 36,079 thousand hectares as against 34,579 thousand hectares sowed during the same period last year.

Uttar Pradesh stands out among the Indian states as the one that contributes the most to the sowing of rice, with 5,844 thousand hectares. Comparing this to the 5,716 thousand hectares of sowing over the same period last year, there has been an impressive gain of 2.2%.

Chhattisgarh, with its 3,593 thousand hectares of sown land, comes in second among the states. However, when compared to the 3,322 thousand hectares over the same period last year, this statistic shows a rise of 8.2%.
