Madhya Pradesh CM promises 30,000 rupees/ha to hailstorm-hit farmers.

Madhya Pradesh government will provide 30,000 rupees per ha to farmers whose crops were recently damaged in a hailstorm. About 30,000 rupees per ha would be given to the farmers apart from the compensation given under the crop insurance. Loan repayment would be postponed for some time. Madhya Pradesh is the largest grower of chana, and the second largest producer of wheat in the country. The hailstorm on Sunday affected several districts and administration has been instructed to send teams to evaluate losses. The wheat crop was the worst hit, and it will take some time to assess the exact quantum of losses. Farmers have sown wheat across 5.3 mln ha this rabi season, down 17.2% from last year.
