Madhya Pradesh disburses 16.7 bln rupees for wheat, paddy incentives.

Incentives on wheat and paddy purchases worth of 16.7 bln rupees have been credited by the Madhya Pradesh govt into accounts of nearly 1 mln farmers.The incentive, 200 rupees per 100 kg above the support price, was for wheat purchased in the year ended March, and paddy in 2017-18. The state government had procured around 6.7 mln tn wheat last year and 1.1 mln tn paddy grown in this kharif season. In February, Chief Minister had announced that farmers in the poll-bound state would get an incentive of 200 rupees per 100 kg over and above the minimum support price of 1,625 rupees per 100 kg for wheat procured from the registered growers in 2017-18 (Apr-Mar). For the current marketing year starting April, the state government has announced an incentive of 265 rupees per 100 kg over and above the minimum support price of 1,735 rupees per 100 kg for wheat farmers. So far this year, agencies have procured 2.48 mln tn wheat in the state, down 11% on year. The procurement is likely to gain pace as harvesting gains momentum.
