Madhya Pradesh government has extended the deadline for procurement of summer grown moong and urad by a month to July 31. The state agency has been procuring moong and urad under the price stabilisation scheme since June 10. The deadline has been extended to boost prices, which have been hovering below MSP in mandis. So far, the agency has procured 71,000 tn of moong and 6,000 tn of urad. The agency expects to procure 150,000 tn of moong and 15,000 tn of urad till July 31. The state agency is procuring the pulses on behalf of NAFED in the state. Falling prices of most farm commodities had triggered a massive protests in Madhya Pradesh early this month. The protests has turned violent forcing the state government to intervene and start procuring the produce at the MSP.
