The Madhya Pradesh government aims to procure 534,000 tn of pulses comprising urad, moong and tur harvested in the 2018-19 (Jul-Jun) kharif season at the minimum support price. Procurement is underway from registered farmers in different centres in the state. The procurement on minimum support price is aimed to support the falling prices in domestic markets. Of the target of 534,000 tn, 345,000 tn would be urad, 158,000 tn tur, and 31,000 tn moong. Madhya Pradesh is among the largest growers of pulses in the country. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India, the central nodal agency, is ensuring that the pulses procured are of fair average quality, as well as adequate storage for these. Procurement of moong and urad began last month and will continue till the end of December, while procurement of tur, which is harvested late, will begin on Mar 1 and go on till the end of June.
