Maharashtra sugar production to rise by 74% in 2017-18.

Sugar output in Maharashtra is set to see a dramatic revival this year with officials estimating a production of 7.3 MMT for 2017-18, a rise of 74% from last year which was affected by the drought. The area under cane cultivation rise to 0.9 million ha from 0.633 million ha in the 2015 drought year. The cane available for crushing which was just 37.2 MMT last year is expected to grow to 65 MMT this year.
