Maharashtra to buy tur from farmers given token earlier.

Maharashtra government will purchase tur from farmers who are ready to sell their crop earlier, but missed on the deadline due to hurdles in state procurement system. Such farmers were given a token with an assurance that their crop will be purchased by the state. CM ordered to purchase tur from those farmers who were given the token, the state government said in a release. The last date for procurement of tur in Maharashtra was May 31. The state government had assured that it would buy the pulse from those farmers who are given the token. Government cautioned that the produce will be examined thoroughly to ensure it came from farmers and not from traders. Farmers having the token faced problems selling tur as the government buying had formally ended on June 10. Govt has so far procured around 600,000 tn of tur in the state. The 2016-17 tur output in the state has been estimated at a record 2.04 mln tn, compared with 444,300 tn in 2015-16.
