The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda said that maize crop in more than 2 lakh hectares across the State was affected owing to various diseases and the State government has not taken any steps to protect the crop from further damage by releasing suitable compensation to farmers. Speaking after inspecting maize crop affected by diseases in Bharamsagar hobli of Chitradurga taluk here, he said that there are plans to visit the affected districts where maize farmers have incurred loses.
