Good monsoon rains in Telangana, one of the major producers of maize, are likely to boost sowing of the coarse grain in the state. On 17 July, Telangana received 121% above normal rainfall at 17.4 mm. Though more than half of the maize sowing is done in the state, recent rains are likely to boost rest of the sowing operations. The area under kharif maize crop across Telangana fell by 25.6% as 273,000 ha. There has been a fall in the acreage under maize lately due to insufficient rainfall in the region during the past few weeks.
