Maize prices unchanged in key wholesale market of Purnea as demand was firm but buyers could not purchase due to high moisture content in the crop. The crop arriving in the market contains up to 20% moisture, while ideally it should be around 14%. On an average, about 160 tn maize arrives in the market daily but supply is expected to pick up in next 10-15 days. Maize futures on the NCDEX were trading higher due to concerns of crop damage after recent rains in Bihar.
