MUCHINGA Province has recorded an increase in maize production this year with the province expected to harvest 324,990 metric tonnes of maize from last year’s 225,000 metric tonnes. This year’s crop forecast survey, the province will harvest 324,990 metric tonnes of maize, recording an improvement of 99,990 metric tonnes from what was produced last year. Maize production in the province has improved due to the sound policies that the government is implementing in the agriculture sector. Dr Mulopa said Government had increased the number of the beneficiaries under the Farmers Input Support Programme (FISP) from 85,000 farmers in 2015 to 173,000 farmers in 2017.
