NAFED buys 769,757 tonne kharif tur for buffer stock.

National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation procured 769,757 tonne kharif tur for its buffer stock from farmers across six states. NAFED procured the pulse from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at the MSP. Procurement of tur crop, grown in 2016-17 kharif season, was scheduled to end by 15 April but the government extended the procurement of pulses, including tur, until Apr 22 to provide relief to distressed farmers. The agency has also bought 198 tonne of masoor grown this rabi season from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. It also procured 2,994 tonne chana from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. As of March 28, the agencies had procured 1.68 million tonne pulses as against a target of 2 million tonne for the buffer stock.
