NAFED procures 1.79 lakh tonnes of mustard at MSP so far

NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India) has bought over 1.79 lakh tonnes of mustard from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 5950 per quintal in the current Rabi marketing season (till April 20). Most of the mustard was purchased from Haryana, where 1.61 lakh tonnes have been procured so far. Procurement is still happening in several states because mustard prices in many markets are still lower than the MSP.

State wise mustard procurement:

Madhya Pradesh: 11,743 tonnes
Rajasthan: 5,893 tonnes
Assam: 1,044 tonnes
Uttar Pradesh: 16.3 tonnes

The government has set a target of 28.28 lakh tonnes of mustard procurement for this season. As per the second advance estimates mustard production for 2024-25 is expected to be 128.73 lakh tonnes, about 3% less than last year’s 132.59 lakh tonnes.
