National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation has procured 24,731 tonne of mustard seed at MSP in Haryana as of 03 May. Procurement of mustard started from April 10 and so far over 11,000 farmers sold the produce at the procurement centres. Procurement drive is being carried out in Bhiwani, Loharu, Siwani, Charkhi Dadri, Haily Mandi, Hissar, Jhajjar, Rewari, Kosli, Narnaul, Ateli and Sirsa districts of Haryana. As the agency is buying mustard seed under the price support scheme to help distressed farmers, it will stop the procurement drive once prices rise above the MSP. Bumper crop this year has led to a steep fall in prices in key areas. Mustard production in the country pegged at 7.9 million tonne in 2016-17 (Jul-Jun), higher than 6.8 million tonne a year ago.
