NCDEX has received the Securities and Exchange Board of India approval for mustard meal futures and the bourse will soon launch the contract. The launch will take place next week. On an average, India crushes 5.5 million tone mustard annually, producing around 2 million tonne of oil meal. The country exports in 2016-17 (Apr-Mar) fell to 214,682 tonne worth 3.8 billion rupees, lower than 331,201 tonne worth 5.93 billion rupees last year. India harvesting a bumper mustard crop of around 7.0 million tonne this rabi season which may keep prices of meal low, and China expected to lift the ban on Indian mustard meal, exports are likely to rise in the current year.
