Odisha CM lauds decision to hike paddy MSP in Union budget.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday welcomed the move to increase the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy and the ambitious health insurance scheme but criticised the Centre over inadequate allocation for backward regions, tribals, scheduled castes and social sectors in the Union budget. I am happy that out demand to increase the MSP to 1.5 times of the cost of production has been accepted. However, the cost of production must take into account the actual cost incurred by farmers on a realistic basis. The state government has been asking for the MSP of paddy to be increased to Rs 2930 per quintal.
