Odisha to book millers purchasing paddy below Rs 1550 MSP.

Two days after it rejected the relaxation made by the Centre in the Fair Average Quality (FAQ) specification of paddy, the Orissa government Thursday warned millers of stern action if they purchased paddy from farmers below the fixed minimum support price (MSP) of INR 1,550. We will act tough against millers and book them under the Essential Commodities Act if they purchase paddy from farmers below the fixed MSP of INR 1,550. The Centre has relaxed the FAQ specifications for the purpose of paddy procurement in 15 districts. In its new FAQ proposals, the Centre has raised the colour fading from the existing 5 per cent to 11 per cent. However, two days back, the state government rejected this proposal on the ground that it would cause extensive losses to farmers in terms of minimum support price (MSP).
