Over 3,761 tonnes of paddy procured in Thoothukudi distt (Tamil Nadu).

District administration has so far procured 3,762 tn of paddy (grade-I) variety from farmers through procurement centres this year. Besides, paddy (grade-C) variety weighing 930.52 tonnes had been procured, according to Collector N. Venkatesh. Over the last four years, the highest procurement of paddy was done during 2014-15. As many as 4,496 tonnes of paddy was procured and during 2015-16, a total of 3,948.88 tonnes was procured from farmers. To benefit farmers, 1.06 lakh cubic meters of clay soil had so far been lifted from 212 tanks in parts of the district. To facilitate farmers to get clay soil for agriculture purpose, special camps are being conducted in all taluk offices on Thursdays of the first and third week.
