Over 7% of kharif rice area submerged by floods in Bihar.

Incessant rains and devastating floods earlier this week seem to have completely damaged at least 7% of the acreage under paddy in Bihar. As of 11 august, kharif rice acreage in the state is 3.26 mln ha. As the assessment of the damage in the state can be done only after rains recede, the initial cues showed that rice will be the worst hit crop. The damage to paddy crop seems irreversible as the plantations will be destroyed due to flood, the official said adding around 55,000 ha of a total 185,000 ha under paddy damaged in east Champaran.
