The Pakistan government has allowed mills in the country to export 1 mln tn sugar in 2018-19 to get rid of the surplus stock. In 2017-18, too, Pakistan had subsidised exports of around 2 mln tn of the sweetener from the country. For 2018-19, however, the Pakistan government will not provide any financial assistance to aid exports. Exports from Pakistan will be met with competition from India. India recently announced a financial assistance of 55.38 bln rupees for the sugar sector to facilitate exports of up to 5 mln tn in 2018-19.
