Filipino corn farmers may be able to earn more by selling the grain abroad if the export restrictions are removed. The National Corn Competitiveness Board (NCCB) said the global market for local corn serves as a viable option for farmers particularly during periods of low prices. NCCB Executive Vice Chairman Roderico R. Bioco said exporting in Asean—which has a big opportunity for local corn may serve as a reprieve for farmers during lean seasons and to stabilize local prices as well as prevent corn farmers from shifting to other high-value crops.
