Pulses import is bound to decrease by 1-1.1 million tonne In current marketing year.

India imported around 5.7 million tonne pulses including peas in last financial year. Bumper production and higher import flow have affected the price adversely and all pulses except Chana and Urad traded below MSP. As availability in domestic market is higher( with 22.4 MMT production & 5.7 MMT Import), prices remain under pressure. Against 24 MMT yearly consumption availability of pulses is 28.1 MMT. This means import would decrease by 15 to 20% this year to negate the impact of additional availability. Pulses import in India would decrease by 1-1.1 million tonne to 4.5-4.6 million tonne this year.
