Punjab is targeting 16.58 mln tn of wheat output in 2017-18 (Jul-Jun), about 6% lower on year because of a likely decline in crop yields. Punjab is the third largest producer of wheat in the country after Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Wheat output target has been kept lower this year because crop yields have declined over the last few years due to rains during the time of harvest.
