India’s rabi maize cultivation has picked up pace this season, indicating positive momentum in winter crop planting. As of 26 December 2025, data from the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare shows that maize sowing has reached 2,092 thousand hectares, up from 2,012 thousand hectares during the same period last year. The rise in acreage points to improved field conditions and steady farmer interest in maize during the rabi season, which could help strengthen domestic maize supply for food, feed, and industrial uses in the months ahead, assuming normal weather continues through the growing period.
