Rabobank sees India sugar output recovering to 26.7 mln tn 2017-18.

Rabobank expects India’s sugar output to recover in 2017-18 (Oct-Sep) to 26.7 mln tn on the back of good monsoon rains. In the 2016-17 season so far, mills across the country have produced about 20 mln tn sugar. In the previous season 2015-16, India had produced 25.1 mln tn sugar. For 2017-18, there is an increasing probability of India sugar production recovering following a good start to the monsoon season. The acreage of sugarcane in Uttar Pradesh is likely to rise 5% in 2017-18 (Jul-Jun). Maharashtra’ cane acreage in 2017-18 is expected to rise 29% to 900,000 ha.
