Rains pose threat to maize crop in Nizamabad.

Rainfall in maize growing regions in and near Nizamabad district of Telangana has triggered concerns about damage to the crop. Weather has been bad for last two-to-three days and rains may damage the maize crop. Maize harvesting started in Nizamabad nearly a month ago and rainfall may lead to higher moisture content in the standing as well as harvested crop. There is already a shortage of maize supply with desired moisture level of 14% and rains may further worsen the situation. Currently, average maize arrivals to Nizamabad market are 2,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg).
