According to the Final estimates released by Department of Agriulture and Farmers welfare 🌾🌾for the 2023-24 season, total rice production is projected to reach a record 137.825 million tonnes (MT), which is 2.070 MT higher than the previous year’s production of 135.755 MT. As of October 4, 2024, total procurement stood at 1.91 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), with Tamil Nadu leading the procurement at 1.86 LMT, followed by Haryana with 0.04 LMT.
**Procurement Status:**
The kharif rice procurement target for this season is set at 72.402 million tonnes. Punjab is projected to procure the highest quantity at 18.5 million tonnes, followed by Chhattisgarh with 10.4 million tonnes. Other major contributors include Uttar Pradesh (6.11 million tonnes), Haryana and Odisha (5.97 million tonnes each), Telangana (5.373 million tonnes), Madhya Pradesh (4.478 million tonnes), Andhra Pradesh (3.731 million tonnes), Bihar (3.433 million tonnes), West Bengal (2.537 million tonnes), and Tamil Nadu (2.388 million tonnes).(Source:FCI)
