According to the Ministry of Agriculture India’s first advance estimate, Kharif rice production for 2024-25 season estimated at record 119.93 million tonnes, up by 5.89% from Kharif rice produced in last year.
The higher planted acreage and good monsoon rains, 108% of the long-term average, contribute towards the higher production. This year farmers planted 41.45 million Ha. , up by 2.47% from the area planted in the previous year. The acreage is up by 3.2% from the Normal area (average from 2018-19 to 2022-23). This year acreage mainly increased in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh.
The expected increase in production coupled with full granaries hints toward comfortable supply side for coming year.
The Food Corporation of India reports 31.06 million tonnes of rice in stock, as on October 1. This amount is well above the needed 10.25 million tonnes. The expected surplus will further increase as unmilled paddy would be adds to the total availability. (Source:Indianexpress)
