Rising ethanol demand drives up maize prices, impacting poultry feed costs: Poultry India

According to sources from the Indian Poultry Equipment Manufacturers Association, the poultry sector in India is dealing with several issues, such as rising feed prices and complicated regulations. Poultry mostly eat maize, although costs have gone up due to the ethanol industry’s growing needs. To fulfill the demand for poultry, the government must double the amount of maize produced by farmers who sell it to the poultry industry. Unfortunately, this hasn’t occurred to the expected government must put rules in place to solve the issues, but poultry authorities have also asked for permission to import maize and soy for free and are urging farmers to plant more of these crops. The industry’s top concern is still the growing cost of feed, as prices for soy and maize rise by 2-3 percent annually. Furthermore, it is becoming more and more difficult for poultry producers to stay in business due to disease outbreaks, seasonal variations in demand, and unpredictable weather. The poultry sector may continue to be vital to the nation’s access to affordable nutrition and food security with the correct assistance. (Source-Chinni mandi)
