SEA source says April castor oil export at 1-year high on China demand

India’s castor oil exports rose to an over one-year high of 55,557 tonne in April due to improved buying from China. The export estimate for April is 22% higher than the same month a year ago, when India sold 45,378 tonne of the industry oil to international buyers. Pickup in demand from China, which accounts for 70% of India’s castor oil exports, pulled up the overall overseas shipments from India, the world’s largest producer of the non-edible oil. China manufactures sebacic acid after processing castor oil and accounts for around 90% of global exports of the acid. India exported 0.48 million tonne of castor oil in 2016-17, down 11%.
