Non-availability of gunny bags has hit the transportation of wheat here. Thousands of quintals of wheat lying in the open, exposed to vagaries of weather. We have been running from pillar to post to get gunny bags, but no one is paying any heed to our concern. Non-availability of gunny bags had delayed payment to farmers. The process of releasing payment starts after the produce is received at warehouses. Labourers, for their part, are concerned too. There are sitting idle, for gunny bags are in short supply. The procurement agency will pay for the loss if the produce gets wet due to non-availability of gunny bags. We want to ensure lifting of wheat to godowns at the earliest to avoid further loss.
