The government expects mills across the country to produce around 32.5-33.0 mln tn sugar in 2018-19 (Oct-Sep), a shade higher than 32.2 mln tn produced a year ago. The slight increase can be attributed to higher cane acreage in the country. Area under sugarcane across the country rose to 5.06 mln ha compared with 4.99 mln ha a year ago.
