That may not be the case any longer, as farmers across the United States are predicted to plant a record acreage of soybeans in 2018, tying that acreage total with corn, according the Office of the Chief Economist of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in a report issued Nov. 28. Long Term Assumptions report, it’s forecasted that farmers will plant 91 million acres of soybeans in the spring, above the 2017 record of 90.2 million acres. Corn plantings should, in turn, rise to equal soybean plantings, to 91 million acres. That’s up from 90.4 million for 2017-18 but down from 94 million in 2016-17.
