Sri Lanka will procure 0.3 MMT rice from Pakistan to meet the domestic shortfall because of drought in the country. Secretary Commerce informed that Pakistan will initially provide at least twenty 0.25 MMT of rice on urgent basis. For the remaining quantities Trading Corporation of Pakistan and Cooperative Wholesale Establishment in Sri Lanka will discuss procurement schedule and price in September and October this year on the advent of new crop. Both sides also discussed about signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries for supply of other commodities.
