Sudan intends to cut wheat subsidies entirely and shift wheat imports to the private sector as part of its 2018 budget. The action is not expected to result in higher bread prices, though, because competition between companies importing the wheat should remain strong. Sudan government still plans to organize wheat tenders. Sudan imported approximately 2 million tonnes of wheat in 2017 and produced about 445,000 tonnes.
