Sugar prices down in Maharashtra, unchanged in north India.

Prices of sugar fell in Maharashtra as mills lowered their prices to trigger demand in the market. Expectations of a higher output this season, backed by normal southwest monsoon rains, has also weighed on the prices of the sweetener. In Maharashtra, demand for sugar is low because of expectation of onset of monsoon in the state by next week. Buyers do not prefer to keep inventories during the monsoon as humidity in the air hits the quality of stored sugar. In Mumbai and Kolhapur, M-grade sugar both sold down 5 rupees.
