Sugar tax will be introduced next year after MPs approved the controversial levy. Parliament on 25 April, backed a slimmed-down Budget before it stops business ahead of the General Election. MP have approved a tax on soft drinks starting April 2018. Former chancellor George Osborne announced the controversial levy to slash obesity and tooth decay last year. Drinks with 5g of sugar per 100ml will face a lower rate of tax, while those with more than 8g per 100ml will face a higher rate.
