Telangana government has procured 260,000 tn maize in the current marketing year (Oct-Sep) so far and is likely to buy 40,000 tn more until Jan 10 when the procurement drive ends. Although arrivals have decreased now, around 4,300 tn (of maize) arrives at the procurement centres daily and we expect it to touch a total of 300,000 tn for the season. Procurement of maize is multiple times higher this year as compared with 18,211 tn purchased in 2016-17 as wholesale prices of the coarse grain are sharply lower than the support price.
