IMD’s Agrimet has recommended farmers in Telangana to control the spread of aphids in the maize crop by spraying pesticides. The current weather will spread aphids. Farmers have been advised to keep a watch on the crop and spray pesticides if the infestation increases above the threshold level. The pest sucks the sap from leaves, buds and pods, stunting the plant and eventually hits the yield.
