India’s coffee output in 2018-19 (Oct-Sep) could be hit if major growing areas in Karnataka do not receive rainfall during the next few days. Karnataka is the largest contributor to India’s total coffee production, accounting for over 70% of the crop. Feb-Mar is the flowering season for new coffee crop and it extends to April if rains are not sufficient during these two months. This year, a major part of Karnataka did not receive adequate rainfall required for blossoming in Feb-Mar. A large part of south Kodagu and some parts of north Kodagu have not had rains in the last two months.
