For the 2017-18 kharif season, the area under the tur crop across the country is at over 8,000 ha, up 60% from the corresponding period LY. The acreage is 60% higher that the 5-year average for the same period. Sowing of pulses gains pace with the onset of the monsoon in June, though it commences earlier in some irrigated areas and places receiving good pre-monsoon showers. The area under the tur crop in Karnataka is at about 5,000 ha, up 66.7% on year, while in Assam, the area is at 3,000 ha, up from 2,000 ha LY. Maharashtra, an average annual acreage of 1.21 mln ha.
