Farmers in the country had sown tur over 0.57 mln ha as on 30 June, 11.2% lower from the same period last year. The lower tur acreage can be attributed to a sharp fall in its prices over the last few months that turned farmers to other crops this year. Sowing lower on year as farmers in some key producing states such as Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat moved to cotton and oilseeds.
